These bows are fast enough.

Of course they cannot compete with a compound bow. They however are not slower than modern longbows, hybrid bows or recurve bows.

Every wooden bow is a little different but all of my bows will throw a 10gpp arrow with an arrowspeed of 170fps+ at a drawlength (AMO) of 28″. The faster ones will show numbers up to 190fps. You will have hard times finding a modern bow providung you better performance.

Together with the magazine “Traditionell Bogenschiessen”, we tested a large number of longbows on the shooting machine at the archery fair in Eigeltingen. It turned out that the classic wooden bows were in most cases performed better than modern bows made of glass and carbon. The fastest bows were of course from selfbow.ch Check this out:

I constantly do more testing on my standardized setup with my shooting machine. As every bow I make is a unique piece this is part of my quality control. Here’s two examples of recently tested bows:

1st one is a 36# @ 28″ laminated yew longbow, tested at 10.2  gpp and 7.8 gpp:

 

2nd one is a yew selfbow, tested at 10gpp and 6gpp:

 

Performance for sure is not an argument against a wooden bow.
