Yes, you are reading right – I made a bow with glasslaminations. Crossed that red line.

Shocked? No, you don’t need to be shocked. My goal always wa sto make the very best bow and I always have been sure that wood would be the way to go. I have always been certain that a wooden bow woudl be more efficient and comfy to shoot.

But how can you make such claims without knowing anything about it. you know if you never tried glass? After all glass is nowadys reality.

Why: I was interested in what all the bowyers are doing today and how that would feel. I have read and heard so much about these bows and that material but couldn’t judge from own experience. Glassbows are the common reality today – alomost all the commercial bows nowadays are made from glass.

More and more we also see carbon used on bows. Mostly used wrong and put behind the glass or in the center of the bow. That is where it does not much good….certainly not improving performance….only helping a little with lateral stability but mainly just adding weight to the bow! Some manufacturers also offering true carbon bows without glass and that is what I wanted to to try also. So I made a standard bow using T800 prepregs someone gave me.

TBH: Carbon is not t a gamechanger either – I dont see a gain in performance on such simple longbow design. However it shoots more comfortable trrhan the glass-version – seems to absorb the vibrations better than glass.

So long,

Simon
