Basics

The achievable arrow speed is  the only measurable parameter that allows an objective comparison between different bows. Therefore speed measurments are one of the most important instruments in my bowmaking practice for constant development of my bows. In order to ensure comparability between different bows and different draw weights, the measurings are done with a standardised arrow weight of 10 grains per pound of draw weight (gpp) at drawlength of 28″. In order to exclude the human factor and bad release these tests are done best with a shooting machine which will provide the most consistant, precise and repeatable results. This setup allows me to carry out conclusive experiments about different wood and bowdesign that lead to steady improvement.
