FINE WOODEN BOWS

…….NEED FINE WOODEN ARROWS

The bow shoots – the arrow hits.

But to hit reliably, you need a good arrow – or a whole set of good arrows!

Now you can make it easy for yourself and buy carbon arrows in the store – then you have good arrows.

Or you can go the hard way and shoot wooden arrows. You can’t buy good wooden arrows in the store. You either have to make them yourself or have them made by an experienced arrow maker.

And of course my customers regularly ask me for arrows for their new bows. However, as I don’t like making arrows and this work is not commercially viable, I have never offered this service before.

Nevertheless, at some point I decided to build up a small but fine stock of premium wooden shafts here and keep them for sale. You can’t sell exclusive bows and not have arrows to go with them (-; So I thought to myself, if you buy a bow from me, I’ll build a set of good arrows for you at a reasonable price. And for everyone else, I have at least a set of premium wooden shafts on offer – shafts that you can’t buy anywhere else in the store:

The difficulty with wooden shafts is the variance within the arrow set. Carbon arrows in a set are always practically identical in terms of weight and spine – wooden arrows in a set are very similar at best. In addition, carbon shafts can be built as light as you like, whereas wooden arrows are always too heavy (gpp) at draw weights below 35# and are difficult to build below 300 gns. Finally, carbon shafts come out practically perfectly straight, while a wooden shaft can only bend as little as possible.

In order for wooden arrows to be fun, they have to be as light and straight as possible and as similar as possible in spine and weight. And it is precisely these factors that I optimize in the arrows and sets I offer. Here’s how it works:

I buy a 100 tapered premium shafts per spine-group from the best manufacturers – and I order them “as light as possible”, ‘straightened’, weighed to “+/-1 gram” and “spined” – i.e. about the best and most expensive you can generally buy. Once here, I reweigh and respine and regroup all the shafts again and sort out any rotten apples. This results in very light and homogeneous sets of arrows that provide maximum enjoyment.

I charge 6 francs per shaft.
